Jana Emburey is an artist based in the Cairngorm National Park. Working across a few disciplines she makes drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures and installations related to the natural world, memory and time. 

Born in Slovakia in 1979, Jana graduated from the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Bratislava, in Historical and Theatre Costume in 1997 and completed her BA Hons in Visual Art in Glasgow under the Leeds Metropolitan University in 2012.

Drawing has always been the very basis of her practice. Often investigating micro and macro worlds, of the natural world and comparing these to the expanse of the cosmos and the relationship and interconnectivity of everything around us. Her drawing practice is also a form of meditation, often requiring a lot of time, focus and patience.

In her sculptural and installation work Emburey often uses discarded or found materials, natural and man-made to make her objects. The materials and the process of making have a great meaning to her. A maker from a young age and surrounded by a family of makers and artists, she had access to clay, fabrics, latex, paint but also a big garden and nature. Through making her works now, she delves into her childhood memories of play with these materials.

Jana has exhibited widely across the UK and also abroad, through a number of gallery representations and her work is in many private and public collections. She is currently represented by IONE & MANN, London, Mayfair, a gallery she has been working with for nearly fourteen years.
