About Grantown Open Studios
Grantown Open Studios is a new celebration of creativity, connection, and community, rooted in the heart of the Cairngorms. This event brings together a small, curated group of artists and makers who represent just a fraction of the growing creative hub that Grantown-on-Spey is becoming.
Born from a shared desire to showcase the talent that exists in and around our town, this initiative is supported by the Grantown Business Association and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), who helped secure initial funding to bring this idea to life. It is a true grassroots collaboration – locally led and designed to benefit the local community.
What began as a simple idea has become something much more meaningful: a platform to highlight the depth and diversity of our creative culture, to invite visitors into our studios and processes, and to spark ongoing dialogue about the role of the arts in rural life.
Our studios sit within the stunning landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park, and our practices are often shaped by this natural beauty – whether through subject, materials, or philosophy. As artists, makers, and designers, we aim to reflect and respect the land we live in, drawing on heritage, folklore, sustainability, and innovation in equal measure.
Grantown Open Studios is more than an event – it is a statement:
That we are more than whisky and hospitality.
That the arts can contribute meaningfully to cultural tourism, well-being, and local economies.
And that the creative community here is worth celebrating and supporting.
This is only the beginning.
We hope you’ll join us for the first step in what we believe will be a long-lasting, evolving contribution to Grantown’s place as a Creative Cairngorms destination.
